Books
I am taking a Young Adult and Children's Lit class this summer. It is a dream come to to be able to not do housework and read instead for legit reasons like, "But this is homework. I can do laundry later." My Shelfari account at the bottom of this page has all the books I read for this class, plus others I have enjoyed. Sadly, this class is over at the end of this week and I have read all my books. So I guess I have no excuses... the housework must be done. (But for the record, I'd rather be reading!)

QR codes
If you would like to check it out, this QR codes links to Kid's Math from the google play store. This site has fun and innovative ways for kids to practice math skills. It is for younger students, but it does cover multiplication and division.
This one is for some science experiments!! Who doesn't love glowing water?!? If you have students that think science is boring, just let them do some fun hands on activities, and you'll have a learner for life! (Plus, there are links to common core standards.)
And if you are in need of some idea for a science fair for older students, this has lots of good ideas. It has a range of things from the human body to technology to solar power.
I would use QR codes in my classroom to make the lesson a little more student involved and more fun. I think all kids like to scan things, so the simple act of scanning the code would be great for the more textile learner. Plus, the codes could save time spent on searching for sites.
Around the house, codes can be found on juice bottles, cereal boxes, and cleaning products.

I think polls could be a good way to gain information from my class- especially information that students might not feel like they can share in a whole group setting. I can certainly see this being used in a lesson on history and politics. It is also a nice way to get students to think critically and creatively.

This is an excellent example of a Code of Ethics. All school should consider writing one, as it can be very helpful legally and helps students better understand technology and how to use it.

The authors point out how "helping" student with digit projects can tread on cheating. But parents have always helped with homework. So how much is too much? Educations need to have an idea of how to answer that question.

This article shares that not only is cyber ethics polite, it is something that can keep you out of jail. Online crimes are indeed, still crimes and punishable by law. It is necessary for students to know that.

Ms. Mendels points out that before driving, students have to study and practice the right way to do it, so it makes sense that before we let students loose on the internet, that we have them study the correct practices. But students are starting on the internet very early, so waiting til high school may be too late. And the words we use to teach them have to be age appropriate.

I liked how this article emphasized how "the community" includes the students, teachers, staff and parents. We must be careful and respectful and teach our students to be, as well.

It also covers topics like cyber safety, buyer beware, collaboration, and career prep. This site is more tailored for older students, but the information would be helpful for teachers of any age and parents.
